Anbernic just dropped the official unboxing and hands-on video for two of its most anticipated 2026 handhelds: the RG VITA and the RG VITA Pro. After teasing the pair back in February and March with design previews, this unboxing marks the clearest signal yet that these devices are on the verge of going on sale.

What We Know About the RG VITA & RG VITA Pro
The RG VITA series adopts a PSP/Vita-inspired landscape form factor — a departure from the clamshell (RG DS) and vertical (RG 477V) orientations Anbernic has been pushing lately. Both models are available in Black and White and share Anbernic's signature clean, minimalist design aesthetic.
RG VITA Pro: The Dual-OS Flagship
The RG VITA Pro is the clear headliner, and it has a genuinely interesting spec list:
- Display: 5.5-inch IPS INCELL touchscreen, 1920×1080 resolution — that's a full 1080p screen in a handheld, which is notably sharper than most devices at this size
- OS: Dual-boot Android 14 + Linux 64-bit — Anbernic is calling it “Dual OS,” bridging modern mobile gaming and open-source retro emulation
- Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0
- Output: USB-C with 1080p DisplayPort output for dual-screen play, plus HDMI-capable TV Mode for couch multiplayer
The dual-OS angle is the most interesting part. Linux 64-bit alongside Android 14 means you get the polish of a modern Android frontend for streaming and mobile titles, but you can drop into a Linux-based retro OS (likely something like ArkOS, ROCKNIX, or a custom build) for your emulation library. That's a setup the community has been asking for — and it echoes what the Retroid Pocket line has been moving toward, though Anbernic is taking it further with the Linux dual-boot.
RG VITA (Standard): The Accessible Option
The standard RG VITA shares the same PSP-style form factor and design language. Anbernic has not yet published a full spec sheet for the base model, but based on the unboxing video and previous teasers, it uses the same exterior design as the Pro in the same color options. Pricing for the standard model is likely to sit below the Pro.
Where Does This Fit in Anbernic's 2026 Lineup?
Anbernic has had an aggressive release schedule in early 2026. We've already seen the RG DS, RG Slide, and RG 477 series land earlier this year. The RG VITA series slips into the lineup as the premium landscape Android device — slotting above the RG 35XX/40XX budget tier and positioning itself against the Retroid Pocket 5 and similar mid-to-high-end Android handhelds.
At 5.5 inches and 1080p with dual OS, the RG VITA Pro in particular is clearly aimed at users who want a single device that covers both modern gaming and deep retro emulation without compromise. The Wi-Fi 6 + DP output combination suggests Anbernic is thinking about cloud gaming and desktop-docked use cases too.
Pricing & Availability
As of this writing, the RG VITA and RG VITA Pro are not yet listed on anbernic.com — the official unboxing video signals an imminent launch rather than a product already for sale. We'll update this post the moment pricing and a buy link go live. Based on where the RG VITA Pro sits in the lineup (5.5″ 1080p screen, dual OS, Wi-Fi 6), expect it to land north of the RG DS's entry-level pricing.

Early Impressions
The reaction on r/SBCGaming has been mixed-to-positive — the dual-OS approach is generating interest, but some community members are waiting to see real-world emulation performance before committing, particularly whether the Linux side is polished out of the box or requires the usual community firmware wrangling. The 1080p INCELL display is genuinely impressive for the price tier these are expected to hit.
If Anbernic can deliver a clean, stable dual-boot experience and keep the pricing competitive, the RG VITA Pro could be one of the more compelling mid-range handhelds of the year. We'll be watching closely for the store listing and will follow up with a full hands-on once units are in the wild.
